The new “smart climate” feature is one of the first in Europe and could help households save 20% percent off their heat pump electricity costs.
Helsinki (December 1st, 2023) – Synergi, a Finnish technology company accelerating the transition toward sustainable energy sources with smart software solutions for consumers and businesses, announces the launch of a new app feature, “Smart Climate,” to help households use heat pumps optimally and save on their electricity bills.
This year, Synergi launched a roster of smart electricity features within its consumer app built to support European households in optimizing electricity consumption according to spot prices and grid carbon intensity.
Synergi Smart Climate is a fully automated way of optimizing heat pump usage according to a user’s preferred indoor temperature and spot electricity prices. Smart Climate works without costly hardware installations or compromising comfort indoors. The feature natively supports wifi-enabled Mitsubishi heat pumps or any other brand connected via a Sensibo (infrared AC controller). Native support for other heat pump brands will come later.
To use Synergi Smart Climate, households set a preferred indoor temperature, and Synergi handles the smart optimization. When the prices rise, the temperature is lowered slightly without sacrificing comfortability. In turn, when prices decrease, the target temperature is increased. According to Motiva, users can reduce their energy bills by five percent by lowering the heat pump temperature by one degree Celsius during the heating season. Additionally, using electricity during cheaper hours contributes to increased savings, which can sum up to 20% of total heat pump electricity costs.
“The International Energy Agency (IEA) estimates that by 2050 there will be 1.8 billion heat pumps. Yet, we already have millions of heat pumps in Europe with little to no optimization capabilities. Since electricity costs and lower emissions are the main motivation to switch from gas heating, price optimization is a breakthrough feature for consumers,” says Antti Hämmmäinen, CEO & Co-founder of Synergi.
